Talking About Specialty Foods

Hello, my name is Roger. Welcome to my website about specialty foods. When I was a young kid, I ate anything and everything without question. I loved all food and did not think that would ever change. Unfortunately, I started experiencing painful allergic reactions after eating certain ingredients. After going to the doctor, I learned I would need to be much more careful about the foods I eat each day. I started looking into specialty foods made without those offending ingredients and it instantly helped. I want to use this site to help other people find and enjoy specialty foods. Thanks.

All About Russian Osetra Caviar

There are many types of caviar, but Osetra caviar is one of the most well known and expensive. You can buy  Russian Osetra caviar online and have it shipped directly to you. So what is Osetra caviar anyway?

What is Osetra caviar?

Osetra caviar comes from the Osetra or Russian sturgeon that lives primarily in Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine. This fish can grow to weigh as much as 400 pounds and can live as long as 50 years. The Russian sturgeon is endangered due to over-fishing, and the only responsible way to harvest the eggs for caviar is from a fish farm. Most caviar for sale comes from these responsibly harvested, farm-raised, sturgeons, but you should always check to make sure. The eggs of the Russian sturgeon are harvested when the female is producing eggs but before they have been fertilized in order to keep the firm texture that excellent caviar is known for.

Why is it so prized?

Russian Osetra caviar is one of the rarest and most sought after kinds of caviar. It is known for its rich color, ranging from deep brown to light gold. The lighter the caviar, the more it is prized and the rarer it is. Light gold Osetra caviar is full of flavor and is harvested from the older sturgeons. The best caviar doesn't taste fishy or like it is doused in salt. The taste is more subtle, and the texture is key. You should expect good caviar to be firm and pop in your mouth with a slightly sweet-salty taste.

How do I eat Russian Osetra caviar?

When you eat caviar you should enjoy the experience. Because of its pricey nature, eating caviar is a treat for most people. Make sure that you make the most out of your experience by following a few of these tips

Don't use metal — When you use metal bowls, spoons, or forks when storing, serving, or eating caviar, it can give the caviar a metallic tang that can ruin the experience. Choose plastic, wood, ceramic, glass, or mother of pearl instead.

Serve it cold — You should serve caviar cold. In a container inside of an ice bucket is common, and it is a good way to ensure your caviar stays the right temperature.

Choose something simple — Caviar, especially quality stuff like Osetra caviar, should be eaten on top of simple toast or crackers so that you can enjoy the flavor of the caviar and no other taste steals the show.
